Rebuilding a Silca Pista Tire pump
I'm about to rebuild my 20-year-old Silca Pista track pump. Why? When it was working it was a lot smoother than any modern pump I've currently purchased. From what I've read when you replace the leather seal your supposed to slather it with heavy grease; however, grease tends to kill leather so I'm wondering what flavor of grease on supposed to use? does it matter? Is it standard axle grease or should I be using something else?

From the Silca site. https://www.silcapompe.it/instruction-silca/AWVM0155.pdf Just says "grease". My guess would be any automotive grease would be fine since I can't think of any leather friendly types that would hold up for long. Maybe some "Guido Testi Super Sexy Hair Grease" from Italy???

I used light oil on mine. I think they wear out faster than oil or grease causes the leather to deteriorate.
Nowadays I'm happy with my Blackburn pump- it was free(ish), since I got it at a bike club gift exchange.
