9 speed cassette on old XTR hub?
My LX rear wheel is about shot. I have an old XTR rear wheel-the hub is skinnier in the middle than newer hubs, making me think it has to be pretty old. Anyway, it's been used as a single speed wheel since I bought it. Is there a way to know if I could use it with my 9 speed cassette?
thanks everyone |
Pretty much everything high end after the mid nineties is 8 through 10 speed compatible.

Through some internet research I found that the hub is a 900 series. Does that make a difference. Looks like it was the first one they made.

XTR 900 was 8 speed, which is the same width as 9 speed, which is the same as 10 speed......it'll work just fine. Sweet hub btw.

Switched the cassette over tonight. I actually need to put a little spacer behind it as there is just a little wiggle.
Saves me money that I don't have to buy new wheels and the brakes work much better. My old rims were in worse shape than I thought. Totally baked, even after sanding. Thanks all. |
