BB30 CAAD9 with english threads?

So I bought my Red crank as BB30 without 100% verifying it - I assumed the BB30 label by the bottom bracket would suffice. Unfortunately, this does not appear to be an insert as I can see the plastic cable retainer from the inside.

So I'm guessing my bike is mislabeled and I have to return a crank?

looks like your going to need to return the cranks.

It certainly looks like a standard English threaded bb shell. Have you tried threading in an English cup just to be sure that's what it is? If so, the crank will have to be exchanged.

I just bought the cheapest CAAD9 frame I could (Tiagra model on sale) with the intent to customize and build as i wanted it so it came with an English BB. I just know that Cannondale ships frames with adapters so I assumed that was the case here after seeing "BB30" on the downtube. I'm awaiting a reply from Cannondale because the main reason i went with another CAAD9 was the option of BB30. I know it looks dirty but I only bought the thing just over a week ago.

looks like your bottom bracket shell needs to be faced if you are going to go with an english threaded bottom bracket.

well a tiagra english bb is what came off it. I actually reinstalled it along with the crank so I can actually ride it until i hear back from Cannondale. The surface is good other than a little paint I need to clean up - like I said, this bike was purchased just over a week ago.

Maybe I have this wrong but I thought the "adapters" let you use a standard threaded English bottom bracket in a frame set-up for BB30, not the other way around. I don't think there is any way to use a BB30 bottom bracket in an English threaded bb shell.

right. It is pretty standard practice to do so and I assumed that was the case on my bike. Unfortunately, I pulled out the english BB and there was no adapter, hence, my problem.

Yup, you have an English BB shell. They most likely added the BB30 decal for marketing reasons and model line continuity. Some homework prior to the purchase would have avoided your issue. Cannondale will most likely do nothing about. Get the right crank and ride.
