Rear wheel replacement Schwinn
Best wheels/rims for Schwinn Ranger bought at Target?
I need rear wheel with bolt and a front wheel with quick release. Please help. |
Depends what you mean by "best" replacement. Do you mean cheapest, most durable, lightest...
Most bolt-on rear wheel freewheel replacements will cost $40-$75 from your local bike shop, but a very durable wheel will likely be more and a very light wheel will be significantly more. You likely won't save money by buying online. |
&& I doubt you want to spend that much money on your bike.

One has a hub for a freewheel, the other has a hub for a cassette. See Sheldon Brown for more details.

Also, you do not have to go with a bolt-on rear wheel. If you wish, you can replace it with a wheel that uses a QR. I'm sure your bike uses a freewheel and, assuming you don't have a freewheel puller, you'll need to have a shop pull it for you to put on the new wheel.
It might be cheaper to repair the existing wheel depending on what is wrong with it. |
Ask Target, or wal~mart if they have a bike repair department.
If not (they won't) go to your local bike shop and they will show you what is possible. Bring the bike in , there may be more problems that have not broken yet, but is going to, because they put bikes on the floor with minimal assembly labor, before the sale. Cheap can cost more in the long run. |
