Stem question, cont.?

Ok, I have looked at a couple options for 40 degree stems, but I am stuck again because I have a 1" steer tube. Will a 1 1/8th work? It's an old stumpjumper. Another questions. What about 90 degrees? That seems like an awful lot, but got me thinking as to what might be best.
Thanks

If it's threadless. You can use a shim in a 11/8" steerer clamp to fit a 1" steerer. The shim is often supplied. If it's a threaded setup a 11/8" quill type stem won't work in 1' steerer. A 90 is also refered to as a 0 rise. a 130 is also a 40 rise.Be sure of what you have and what the #s mean before wasting money....Some adjustable stems will get you up to 150*. If you already have a 130 as you said, I'd be thinking riser bars, or starting over with a more suitable freme/fork/

Thanks for the info. I was able to locate a stem riser that attaches right on top of my steer tube, like a stem, and then I can attach the stem to that at any height. It seems to work great, but I am weary of the stability. It was cheap and it will at least give me a chance to ride it before I spend any more money.
