Identifying stem/headset/fork rings, help a newb
2 Attachment(s)
hey all
does the compression ring sit with the thin tapered side facing down on facing up? does it sit on top of the top race/cone/thing with writing on it or does it fit inside it? http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=168164 |
Although the pieces on the top road seem to probably be compressor ring and cone. There are other issues:
1. The cone (upper right in the pic) appears to be badly pitted. 3. If the bearings have been completely cleaned they appear to no longer have a mirror finish, and should be replaced (with loose ball bearings). I mention that mainly for future reference, as the 1st point makes that fairly irrelevent. |
The one in the top roll in the middle is the compressor ring, it goes on the fork after the stack (parts) is put together which goes in the one to the right of it. one set of bearing & seal goes on the fork into the lower cup on the headset ,the other one in the top cup. then the part in the upper right corner and like i said before the middle one and then your spacers, stem and the bolt with the cover.

if the cone is pitted then it time for replacement. at one time the headset was set to thighed. unless your bikeshop has lose parts laying around ,you'll need a new headset. I take it the bottom cone is pitted ?
