Converting mech disks to hydros, and rotor sizes
Hi, I've got mech discs from and rear on my bike and thinking of upgrading them to hydraulic. What would I need (i.e levers, caliper, hose, fluid etc). What do you think of just converting the front for a while, and I think my shifter is attached to my lever, would I need a new one? And what about cost, should I try to get second hand parts? Also, what do I need to increase the size of the rotor (apart from the actual rotor, it's at 160mm, and I'm thinking of changing to 180mm as it's badly bent), do I just need a mount? Thanks, sram

If you've got brifters you will need a new lever and a new shifter. Luckily most hydraulic brakes are sold as lever + caliper + hose already cut, assembled and bled. You might need another mount/adapter to go with your bigger rotor.
2nd hand parts are always a bit of a gamble, if it's your first experience with hydraulics you might want to stick with new stuff as to avoid any issues with parts that aren't quite OK.

I note that those with IS mounts can use both types of caliper; the second pic shows a post-mount caliper mounted on a bracket.

Just a thought, Shimano and Magura use a light mineral oil for the fluid ,
all the others use a fluid that deteriorates the paint, if left in contact,
so wipe off drips Immediately.
