Convert XT hub to solid axle ?
I've got a Surly 1x1 converted from SS to 1x8 with a XT hub w/QR. And I'd like to convert to a solid axle. Can I do this with a Shimano hub?
|
Sure
they're just a loose ball cup and cone hub, where one end is on the end of the cassette driver, just get a long enough 10x1 axle. or at least that was true last time I took one apart .. been some years back.. Try it. |

I did just that mod with the 10x187mm axle:

When you swap out the axle you need to adjust the bearings with a little preload. The outside locknuts don't compress the axle as happens with a QR.

Derail. What did you do about your derailleur hanger? I've got the same set up.
