Hello,

I am looking for some help for my DualDrive bicycle hub, that is in dire need of help. A little backstory:

I bought the bike from a co-worker, and such, do not know much about the bike, my guess is that it is around 5 years old. I used the bike rather regularly (around 2-3 times a week). About 2 months ago, I got a flat tire, no problem. A couple weeks go by (I was in the middle of moving to a new apartment) before I can finally sit down and fix the wheel (I had a spare).

I take off the wheel, and learn from reading the user manual, remove the clickbox. After replacing the inner tube. I proceed to read the manual, and it says to tighten the shifting/push rod. Of course, I over-tighten it and it breaks. I ordered a new rod, and set down to replace the push rod. I soon realized that the crossbar (the piece that the shifting/push rod screws into, I do not know the name for it) has the broken bit still in it. If I am unable to get this bit out, ( I have tried) Where could I get a spare?

Calling Sram I was told to just buy a $260 new hub, and steal the parts, but this does not seem like an option, I might as well get a new bike for that.

Any Help would be much appreciated!

I can provide more information, but since I am new to most things bicycle I am not entirely sure what is needed information. Please ask if more information is needed.

Actually, that is a pull rod, not a push rod. Where is it broken, is it just the threaded tip broken off? Is there any part of the rod still sticking out of the axle?
How hard did you torque it? When they said to tighten it, they meant to just make sure the threads were all engaged, not to torque the heck out of it. The tech document in my link says 1.8 in. lb. That would be about finger tight.
If there is no part of the rod you can get a grip on to un-screw it, dis-assembly of the hub is in order.

A good source of information and parts for the SRAM Dualdrive hub is the Bike Friday people: https://www.bikefriday.com/ . Call them up and describe what you need. I bet they'll have the parts in stock.

"Whole hub" when all you need is one or two parts? That stinks.

I think it was a Sachs hostile takeover by Sram, the other grip shifter at the time.

Buy out your competition.. get their market share..

Yes the threaded tip is broken off. The service technician I took it to said he cannot get the little piece out, but that seems silly. I don't know what I was thinking, the book said tighten, so I did. I wasn't paying that much attention. Sigh...

I have a friend who has a Greenspeed with that hub and you can't geet the rubber boot that covers the left side of the hub. I don't think much of their customer service when you can't replace a soft part.
