Chainring Installation

I am installing new Superglide chainrings on my 105 cranks. I know the pin on the 52T ring aligns with the crank arm and should be on the outside and the size stamping should also be readable. The question is how does the 42T mount? I know the tab also aligns with the crank, but does the size stamping face into the large ring or into the frame? The holes do not have indentations like the large ring. The crank instructions offer little help.

On my 105 and Ultegra cranks, both 8 and 9-speed, the 42T rings are installed with the model and tooth count engraving facing inward toward the frame and with the engraving 180 degrees from the drive side crank arm.
