Bottom Bracket Help-

I am looking at picking up a new Black 105 Crank. I do not understand the bottom brackets though. Can I order an Ultegra or Dura-Ace Bottom Bracket and it will work fine with the 105 crank or do I need to get the 105 BB? Are there some real advantages to buying one of the higher level BBs?

This is a probably a very elementary question, but I appreciate your help.

Thanks-

Thanks!

So, whats the difference between the sealed cartridge types and the hollow ones? I am pretty certain I need the hollow type, just curious what the difference is?

Also, I would need 68 which is English Threading, correct?

68mm is the width of the bottom bracket shell for a standard English BB, so, correct.

The bottom bracket type needs to match your crank. If it's the latest series 105 crank, you need the parts for the hollow spindle. A sealed cartridge BB is probably the older Octalink type, which is for a different crank.

It's helpful if you include URL's when you're asking about compatibility. For instance, this crank:

takes this BB:
http://www.universalcycles.com/shopp...4&category=347
(or Ultegra or Dura-Ace)
not this:

Thanks Jeff. Thats pretty much what I was thinking, I just wanted someone to confirm I was correct. I appreciate it!
