tubeless?

To go tubeless or not to go tubeless? My rims on my mtb are "tube-less ready" and I have Kenda Nevegal tires. I've been considering switching to tubeless in order to be able to run lower pressure without risking pinch flats. Does anyone here have experience either way?

Is it really possible/practical to bead the tire with CO2 as I don't have an air compressor at home. I do have a very good quality Specialized floor pump though.

Anyone have recommendations on valves and sealant?

Thanks, David

Can't comment on MTB tubeless, but my road tubeless can be mounted and inflated with just a floor pump. With road tubeless, the important thing is to make sure the bead is seated properly where the valve assembly is. As long as that is seated, it takes air easily. Don't know how this will differ from MTB tire.

I'm running tubeless on a road bike, I'll never go back. There a son of a gun to seat, I use a floor pump. Hutchinson fast air for sealant. The valves that came with the wheels are what I'm using.

Use Stan's sealant in the tires, use soapy water on the tire's bead when you initially inflate it, get access to an air compressor for initial inflation. Once done, you can top the tires off with a floor pump as needed, should be about the same as a tire with tubes in that regard. You'll be able to run very low pressures without pinch flat worries, get better traction and improve ride quality. The sealant will take care of small punctures as well. It's common to run pressures in the 20-30psi range. The advantages are pretty much limited to off road riding, so if you use the bike on pavement much, just stick with tubes. If you prefer pressure of 40+ pounds, I don't recommend tubeless (talking mtb tubeless here).
