Campy Record 10spd bottom bracket spindle question
I just bought a used Campy Record (200x) 10spd crankset with BB, 102 mm spindle length. I'm an old school mechanic (old eye-talian and English bikes, etc) so it's a new animal.
My question is: why is the drive side (right) spindle length shorter than the off side (left) spindle?
This is counter-intuitive.
Planning to install in a 80s Faggin Italian frame. Is chainline going to be a problem? 7spd freewheel on 120mm axle width between r dropouts.
Thanks for any advice.
Pete

Pretty sure it ends up symmetric once installed. Could be wrong.
But in any case, the 102mm is the correct BB for your crank.
And a 7s frewheel won't fit in a 120mm OLD, but if it's an 80's frame, it's probably 126.

It's designed to give you the correct chainline for a double crankset, 43.5 mm. The design of the crankset should put the pedals equal-distant from the bike's centerline.

Campy Record (200x) 10spd crankset with BB??? those aren't asymmetrical, the BB it is a cartridge that is symmetrical, are u sure is not symmetrical?
Are these the cranks and BB??

If the answer is yes just wonder why u say the BB is not symmetrical, it should be symmetrical for those cranks, just wonder if you have another BB model like a triple or an old veloce or something like that, those aren't symmetrical.
Either way if you have the BB and the cranks matched they work fine in your bike just put them in. No tricks finding longer axles and cr@p as back in the day.
Good luck.

Record and Chorus square taper bottom brackets from the early through mid 2000's and pre Ultra-torque were indeed asymetrical. Centaur and below were symetrical.

But Centaurs were longer, 111 mm, so there's really no comparison.
I really don't think (could be wrong ... ) Campy made both an assymmetric and a symmetric 102 mm BB. I'd figure if it's a Campy sealed BB and it's 102 mm, it's the right one for you Record.
Re 130 mm rear end, I think it's possible. Not sure when 8-speed hit the Campy world, but that would be the break point: bikes set up with Campy 8-speed would have needed 130 mm.
