slime

Im getting tons of flats can I use slime in a presta tube? or should I try slime strips?

My friend has Slime filled tubes and he often uses my compressor to inflate them. When he puts his tire gauge on the stem, a bit of Slime spits out; the same when he uses the air hose chuck. It also gummed up the spring on a Schrader valve. For my bike, I chose tires with a puncture resistant belts instead.

My experience with slime tubes in high pressure tires was that the air went out so fast when I got a puncture, the slime only made a mess inside (and outside) the tire. Switched to puncture resistant tires. Continental Ultra Gatorskins and specialized Armadillo's. Much less problem with flats now. In my touring bike I use Stop Flats 2 liners for the same effect.

depends upon your priorities. mr. tuffy liners (like slime liners) can help. so can kevlar belted tires but you're giving up some performance. there are also puncture resistant tubes which have thicker rubber but not many people like them. i'd probably rank all those options above using slime.

Yeah, I much prefer tire liners to goo filled tubes. But the choice is yours.

I used to use slime and I had no flats for a couple years and forgot it was there until I went to let air out to change the worn out tires.
I started using it when I went to Arizona on a bike trip in the early '90s... On one desert ride four of us started the ride, two of us has slime in out tubes, and two had to walk back to the trailhead.

THe trick to using slime in presta tubes is to cut a small slit in the tube when it is off the bike, squirt half the bottle in (being careful not to make a mess), clean up carefully around the hole, then patch the hole with a regular vulcanizing patch.

It might be better to figure out what is causing all your flats and then solve the problem if possible.

I gotta say it: "Gee, do ya think?" :)

Instead of all that cutting and patching and fussing with goo glue - just get some puncture resistant tubes and some tire liners.

Puncture resistant tires > Puncture resistant tubes.
