simple & dumb question re: BB removal
what way is loose.
I do not know and I do not want to ruin my old school 30 yr olf steel frame...the BB is original and needs some grease...I do have the tools but I have worked on my bikes since 1990's

You have given absolutley no information that would allow anyone to help. What are you loosening - crank, adjustable cup, fixed cup? What brand/year of bike, was it purchased in the states?

if you are talking about the BB, and the old axle,cones,balls ,cups the right side (drive side ) come out clockwise, the non drive side come out counterclockwise the cup and the locking ring. do the reverse to put it all back together.

The BB outerring thing that threads into the BB itself..left side vs right side..I was unsure what drive side was vs nondrive sideLefty loosey I know but not for each side.

Italian (36 mm x 24tpi) or French (35 mm x 1.0 mm) have right hand threads on both sides. The VERY rare Swiss threads are the same size and pitch as French but the drive side is left hand threaded.

Sit on your bike like you are going to ride it.
The left side is under your left arm and is the non-drive side.
The right side is under your right arm and is the drive side.
The drive side gets its name from the chain and gears which drive the bike are on that side.
Take the pedals off first, then follow the instructions given above.
