Chain rubbing.
Hello everyone,
I'm fairly new to the cycling scene, newbie if you may. I've owned a road bike for about a month now and am in love with this sport. Anywho I got into this sport because I needed something to get me back into shape, and i truly feel this is it.
Anyways onto my question. I was out on a late night ride tonight and after pulling into my driveway I amateurishly forgot to clip out and fell like a tree on the side walk. my heart was crushed Fortunately I didnt seriously hurt myself other than a bruised ego, however my bike chain is now rubbing against my front derailler. How do I adjust this? I thought at first that there would maybe be a hex screw or something I could easily adjust to fix this but I'm not afraid to tighten loosen anything because I have no clue what does what? Should I just take it to my LBS? I have SRAM Rival components by the way my bike is a GT series 1.

Probably the cable is loose and tightening the barrel adjuster will fix the problem. If you pull on the cable with your hand does the derailleur move?

For the FD.
Loosen cable bolt.
Fix low limit screw.
Put the cable back on.
Adjust high limit screw.
Adjust cable tension.
There are instructions online, or you could check the manual.
Also, are you having shifting issues on the back. Landing on the driveside could potentially bend the derailleur hanger which will lead to shifting problems.

Actually ptle I am having slight issues shifting the rear. It just doesn't feel as smooth as before the fall. Getting worried now so I'm going to have to make a trip to the LBS tommorow.

Fixing the gears is something you will have to learn sooner rather than later. These things will constantly drift off a little so that I adjust the screws a bit after every month or so. There are numerous videos in youtube. Check them out at first. Start from step 0 and release the cable from the derailleur and then put the thing to the right height and angle. Then play around with the 2 limit screws. Rear derailleur in easier to adjust than the front.

I doubt the Front derailleur got bumped during the fall. Probably just moved the shifter a bit. Can't you move the shift lever a bit to stop the rubbing (called trimming) ?
