8 speed to 10 speed cassette change over question
Is it necessary to use the spacers on the inside and outside of the new 10 speed cassette? there weren't any on the original 8 speed . Thank you for the best bike site on the web!

If you are talking about Shimano then the answer is you need the spacer at the back. The lockring at the front has a built-in spacer. Don't know what other spacer you are talking about. If the hub is a MAVIC you may need a 2 mm MAVIC spacer all the way in the back.

8 speed to 10 speed
thank you al1943..I guess I'm all set. I changed my bike from 8 to 10 speed.. crank, b/b. shifters and cassette next to the shop for a 10 speed chain( I don't trust myself to install a new one.) I hope the r/d works because I went from 12/25 to 12/28. thank you guys for your help.

Question: are chain rings 1 size fits all? Will the cogs on a chain ring used with an 8 speed cassette be too wide for a 10-speed chain?
