Dura Ace 7900 shifter Compatability
Are the new 7900 series shifters compatable with 6600 rd and fd? I read that the new series can shift faster because in needs 20% less throw.

My understanding is that 7900 is compatible with 6700. 7800 is compatible with 6600 and 5600.

The 7900 right shifter is compatible with almost all Shimano rear derailleurs, definitely including 6600.
The 7900 left shifter is only compatible with the newer road front derailluers (double cranksets only): 5700, 6700, and 7900. Not 6600 (although you could certainly try it with your 6600 and see how big of a problem it is before buying something new if needed).
The 7900 brake levers are not officially compatible with standard road brakes, they have a slightly different cable pull that is only matched by Shimano's new brakes (again, 5700, 6700, and 7900). However, the cable pull is different in different parts of the lever's motion, so if you set the brake so that the bite point (when it first contacts the rim) is not until the lever has moved some distance (but is still a safe distance from the bars), then they operate standard road brakes quite well (because in that part of the motion, the levers are pulling a similar amount of cable as intended for those brakes).
