Loose clip-adjustment screw. . .

I have double entry spd pedals on my bike. While cleaning the pedals yesterday, I discovered that one of the clip-adjustment screws was so loose that it almost fell out into my hand. I guess I keep my feet pretty still on the pedals, as I rarely accidentally pull out of the clips unless I want to unclip--and it was a screw on the foot that I usually unclip at stops. I had ridden 15 miles the day before and had not noticed anything abnormal about the pedals' action.

So, why did this happen and how can I prevent it in the future?

Both of my road shoe pairs are SPD. At one time I had noticed a very slight loosening of the Allen head screws that secure the shoe cleats to the shoe. I now check them every couple of months. Another fix would be to use something like Locktite on the screw threads. I have had very good results using PermaTex Hard setting gasket sealer as a thread treatment to prevent loosening.

Thanks for the tip. I think I'll just tighten it up a little and try checking it weekly. I think my husband has some locktite stuff in the garage if I need it in the future.

Try a little loctite. All(ALL) of the screws on the pedals seem to loosen up, check em every now and then just to be safe.
