Replacing Cable on Shimano tourney Front Shifter
 

Hi I was wondering if anyone knew how to remove the old cable from the Shimano Tourney ST-EF40-F Shifter? The website has tech documents only for the ST-EF40-L and the rear shifters and it's not clear how to remove the cap and remove the cable. I heard you're not meant to open up Shimano Shifters?

There's really only two options for any shifter. First option is that there is a hole on the side of the shifter and in either the top gear or the bottom gear position you'll see the end of the cable's barrel end. If so just push on the cable and it'll come out and then you can thread in the other one. Second option is to remove a part of the shifter's shell to access the cable. Look for the smaller screws that seem to be holding the outer shell together. If there's no access hole like in the first option then it is meant to have some part removed to access the cable.

Thanks I worked it out, it was how it said in the tech doc on shimano's website, it just required a harder tug than I thought and I was worried I would break it.
