recently i bought a pair of michelin city tires for my bike. my front tire is fine but theres a problem with my rear tire. every couple hours my rear tire losses all its air, even if the bike is not in use. i checked the tube and the tire for holes but they were both fine. what is the problem?

Smaller leaks are much harder to find when the tube is removed from the tire, as you can't get more than a few pounds of pressure, hence the need to check for bubbles under water. Also check at the stem.

Check that the rim tape is intact and is covering the back of the spokes.

To recap, you most likely have a very small hole in the tube. To permanently fix the problem, you need to find out why. Take the tube out of the tire. Inflat the tube a lot and either carefully feel for the leak or put the tube underwater as suggested. Wne you find the hole, carefully match up the hole in the tube using the value stem to the tire. Then look at the exact spot where the tube hole is to the tire on both the inside as well as the outside. Most likely you will find a sliver of glass or metal in the tire. Alternatively you will find the hole in the tube is on the opposite side of the tire away from the road surface. That means the cause is from the rim tape o the inside of the wheel/tire.

Check the inner rim for debris. Check the inner tire for debris. If no luck, Re tape the rim or buy a better tire. Such as a Marathon or an Armadillo. Great tires. The Armadillo is cheaper though.

do the inside the tire check, for stuff that will create the same hole, again, take that bit out,

then put a new tube in, thornresistant ones are 3x as thick.

check the one you took out see if theres a hole to patch ... then you will have a patched spare.

do what these guys said. I had a rear tire that will very slowly lose air. i replaced 3 tubes before i got pissed off and rubbed my hands inside the tire. a very very small glass as embedded in there. make sure you wear something or else your finger will get cut if there is something in there.

Also put a bit of air around the tube valve. Occasionally, the valve stem itself isn't tightly sealed into the tube. Water will bubble off the inflated tube's valve if that's the case. That's what this tool is for.
