Is my lacing right?
 

Ok, I tried my best to follow sheldon step by step, but for some reason this looks backwards to me.

I looked at my other wheel (not built by me) and it looks a lot different. Are my heads in/out trailing/leading spokes alright?

I've looked at the videos I can find on youtube and it looks like the wheel I just did (and took pictures of) is right and the rear wheel i'm comparing it to is the wrong one.

Any confirmation that i'm ok or bashing me for being so wrong?

(I put the book in to help show just that side of the hub, so all of the other spokes wouldn't clutter the image)

I think it looks fine.
If there's anything wrong with the lacing, then you'll find out when you can't tighten the spokes anymore, but there is still considerable slack.

Ok, I realized it's hard to tell if the spokes are going over or under. On both the DS and NDS the spokes with heads-in go "over, over, under"

There are a few variations on how to lace. I believe Sheldon preferred trailing to be heads out while Shimano calls for the opposite. Machine built often end up with the flanges identical when viewed from the same side while hand built will look like mirror images. Supposedly it makes spoke insertion easier.
Anyhow, if build quality is otherwise OK (tension, wind-up, seating, stress relief etc) these differences tends to be marginal in terms of wheel performance and durability.

vantassell, Not being a very good wheel builder myself I pay a lot of attention to the gurus. I orient the trailing spokes heads in. I absent mindly rebuilt a wheel backwards and it didn't effect anything.
