ASK : chain compatible for DURA-ACE cs7900

regards.

i'm asking for opinion again...

is it true that DURA-ACE cassette should also use DURA-ACE chain...?
i'm setup new DURA-ACE cs7900 with KMC X10-SL
but i think its not work well, when gearing up / down, the shifting is really not smooth at all...
i'm reading a lot articles about it, some says it should also use specific DURA-ACE 7900 chains or similar the new XTR 10sp chains..
doh, why i'm never geting the right setup with high-end parts...

please help me with your opinion, and thank you before...

`Compatible` can sometimes be a really big word

Every manufacturer likes to sell their own stuff and lots of people will try to tell you `its all the same`.

But it isn`t.

Shimano and KMC both manufacturer chains. Similar models will have idendical pitch and almost identical widths. That makes them `compatible` in the most general sense of the word.

The problem is that compatible, 100% compatible and designed specificaly for all mean three different things regardless if we`re talking bicycles or computer software.

So think about it. Shimano designs chains that will make their own stuff work better. And the tooth designs, ramping and profiling on their cassettes and chain rings is protected by patents so no one else can copy them exactly.

Same as their chains. In fact, the side profiling on the CN-7900 is so extremely engineered to interface with the CS-7900 cassette that the ones I`ve seen are directional. Thats right - its necessary to orient the chain - installing it backwards won`t deliver optimal performance.

I like SRAM and KMC products. But personally on 9 or 10 speed drive systems - I refuse to mix components. Not everyone agrees with that, but I have to live with the results and I`d rather live with no issues.

Like the guy above said, the cassette has been designed to work best with the matching new series chain - any of them will do. cn-7900/6700/5700

Sram chains are tehcnically compatible but will result in reduced shift performance. Don't buy into a problem, buy the correct matching chain for the system.

thanks all for the response..
so that's true, i should also use cn7900
yeah i have tried different chain, shimano ultegra 6700 chain, shimano 105 5700 chain, i borrow it from my friend, it's still have the same problem....
tried to changed my KMC chain orientation, and it's still have the same problem....
i think now i am agreeing for not to mix component, especially for high end parts...
