Campy ergo lever triple to double compatibility - Daytona circa 2005

I have a bike that was built up by the PO using a mix of (lower end?) Campy of a circa 2005 vintage. The levers are marked Daytona. Derailleurs are Mirage in front & Veloce in rear. If it makes any difference, the rear is 9-speed. He used a triple crankset in front and I'd like to change it to a double. Can anyone tell me if this can be done by simply adjusting out the third set of "clicks" or will I need to rebuild/retrofit my left(front) shifter if I want to do this right?

I would think I could simply set it up to be using the lower two positions and have the range beyond that (ie, what is now the largest chainring) locked out using the derailleur limits.

If there's a good informative site that explains all this someone would kindly point me to, that would be great. Sorry if I'm asking a dumb question here & thanks in advance.

All you have to do is turn the big ring limit screw on the FD in (CW) enough to prevent the shift to the big ring. The proper setup of a Campy triple FD require 7 clicks of the finger lever. It requires one full sweep (5 clicks) to shift from the little ring to the middle ring, but it then requires an immediate click of the thumb button to recenter the FD cage, since Campy's mechanism has no built-in overtravel and return. Without the thumb button click, the left side of the cage will rub the chain. If any more clicks are used (12 are available), it means that the FD cable does not have enough tension and you're wasting clicks taking up cable slack.

Just an FYI: the Daytona name ended c.2001, and I think was produced as 10 speed for one year, so your shifters are year 2000 or older. Daytona is good stuff, and the group name was changed to Centaur.
