american classic 420 which non-ceramic bearings?

Hello,

I got a set of used american classic 420 wheels off cl and I would like to replace the bearings in rear hub, they sound a bit gritty and just for the piece of mind. For cost reasons I'd rather go with steel ones.

fle*bay search for 'american classic 6803 bearings' turns out a large number of hits even for steel ones, are they all the same? (most of them sold by the same seller).

https://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=ame....c0.m270.l1313

the same is true about 'american classic 58' search to get the front ones:

https://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=ame....c0.m270.l1313

So, does it matter which ones to get? Anybody had experience with fle*bay steel ones? Some other suggestions?

Thanks a lot!

I've used lots of cheapo ebay bearings on bicycles and motorcycles -they work fine.
If the size is correct-they will work. The 6803 indicates the size-the various letters indicate what sort of seal they have.
On bikes I really don't worry much about the seal- I just buy the least expensive that will fit and call it a day.
If you ride in salty snow or in the ocean then good seals are more important-

At any Bike dealer with a QBP account ..

Home > Quality Bicycle Products Special Order Catalog > Components > Bearing > Cartridge Bearings > Enduro Max > ABI Enduro Max 6803 Sealed Cartridge Bearing
ABI Enduro Max 6803 Sealed Cartridge Bearing (BB8803)

  • 90% filled with Mobilux NGLI 2 synthetic grease, dual-lip labyrinth seals, full complement of bearings, up to 45% increased load capacity
Item Specifications Bearing I.D. 17 mm Bearing O.D. 26 mm Bearing Thickness 5 mm Manufacturer Number 6803

Tht means there are as many balls, as will fit in the races.

I have a 420 rear that also needs bearings.
I recall there are different bearings depending on which flange size you have, so maybe double check your hub specs first.

How hard are they to replace ?
