Threaded to Threadless Fork Steerer Length?

I am about to convert from a threaded fork to a threadless one. The thing that is really throwing me now is the steerer length. I see people listing forks already cut from 200mm to 300mm. I understand that I can cut it down further if needed.

Is there a "standard" length that will work? How would I measure it to determine what I need for my frame?

Everytime I install a new fork I don't cut it until I get the fit correct. You can always add spacers above the fork there is no functional reason not to, just aesthetic.

Measure your head tube to get a rough Idea. Remember that you will have the headset height as well as the stem height to account for. I would make sure to buy at least enough lenght to be comfortably over those two. You can cut if you want later.

You need to know how high you want your handlebars. The steerer tube needs to be long enough to reach from the fork crown to 1/8 inch below the top of the threadless stem. And it would be best that the steer tube is even longer so that it can be cut after you've had a chance to try the setup. Be sure you buy a fork and headset of the correct steer tube diameter to match your frame.

Add your head tube length, 25-35mm for the headset, 40mm for the stem and a maximum of 40mm for spacers. That should be long enough.

I know what to measure now.

Thanks for the input.

I don't cut because I want the flexability for future needs.
