wipperman connex 108 "whitestar" chain and quick link

Hello. I just received a connex whitestar in the post, and i was super enthused. However, when i opened the box, i found that it had no connex link/spring clip/powerlink/Federverschluss/whatever you wanna call it in the box. Ich was dismayed, b/c the box indicates that the chain comes mit un Federverschluss.

My question is, is this the sort of chain that can be connected, broken, and reconnected with a regular chain tool? Or, does this have the weird pins that, once pushed out, cannot be reliably pushed back in for use? Short version of the question: can i run this chain without the quick link?

Danke.

The chain is supposed to come with a spring clip link, not a connex link, but since this is a protruding pin design, not a flush-pin, you can join the chain without a link. Just don't push the pin all the way out or you'll never get it back in. Push the pin out just enough to allow the chain to come apart.

ok, that's good. in my ss/fixed only days, i only used cheap kmc chains, and i never trusted spring clips. So, i'm pretty good with the pins. I just wouldn't want to have issues with outer plates bending or whatever.

thanks for the response, DaveSSSSSSS

The 108 White Star is a 1/2 x 1/8" chain for use with SS or internal gear hubs. As such it won't be subjected to the kinds of side stress of derailleur chains and doesn't have or need peened rivets to resist them. Open and splice this classic chain the old fashioned way by pushing a pin back and forth with a chain tool.
