"Full Speed Ahead" Cranksets Recalled

Saw this recall notice today. Oddly, it says only the non-drive side of the crankset is affected. I hope this recall notice is seen by everyone, and no one gets hurt:

https://www.upi.com/Business_News/201...4741290196819/

Quote:
"WASHINGTON, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- U.S. bicycle component business Full Speed Ahead said it was recalling 9,300 defective crank sets used in various bicycles due to a problem with cracking.

If a fixing bolt is over-tightened on the non-drive crank arm, the bolt shoulder can crack, possibly causing the rider to crash, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Friday.

The crank sets were installed in Bianchi, Cannondale, Felt, Fuji, Quintana Roo, Litespeed, Raleigh and Scattante bicycles..."

I have an FSA Gossamer crankset.

According to the article:

They were sold as original components on bicycles from February 2010 through October 2010.
Mine is older than that so I am going to assume it is safe to ride.

+1 on Torque wrenches too, becoming a necessity, even to work on bikes.

Recall is for Gossamer BB30 arms with serial numbers starting in 10B, 10C, or 10D. Just checked my 2010 CAAD 9. My arm is an "09L", so it's OK. YMMV.
