Gripshift and Sora front derailleur

I got the winter bike out this weekend and lubed it all up, and remembered something I meant to check on last year. I have a Sora triple front derailleur and with the front gripshift, all of the shifting takes place between the 1st and 2nd indicators on the shifter. It shifts fine, just not much room for error or trimming. I slid it apart and it looks like I threaded the cable correctly. This is on an old Fuji Odessa that I built up for commuting to work and has become my winter ride. The shifters are off a Next or Roadmaster, don't remember which. I wanted to try Gripshifts and actually liked them.

Is this just a mis-matched combination, or am I missing something? Thanks.

the cable pull ratio between MTB and road is different for the front derailer.

Thanks AEO. I kind of figured that was the case.

You can look at the european Shimano web site for the flat bar group to see what you can do. But, I don't remember seeing a grip shifter in there.
