Raising handlebars

Hi,

My beater bike has a really large saddle to bar drop, I want to raise the bars up a bit without spending much money. The problem is that it is a quill stem and even at the highest setting it is still way too low.

Are those quill stem extenders any good?

Thanks

Daven

The Nitto Technomic stem comes in a very long version. Another alternaive would be one of the adjustable angle quill stems. Set the fore part up to around a 60 degree upward angle and then fine tune it with the insertion depth. Or an extra long quill to threadless stem adapter and a suitable mountain bike rise angle stem. This last bit means buying two parts instead of one. And Nitto stuff isn't all that cheap so an adjustable angle longer quill stem might end up being the best way to go.

niagara has some 200-250 mm length stems ~$16

if you buy a small item, they will usps it reasonably

Unfortunately I'm in the UK so probably can't use that seller without incurring loads of fees but will check out some adjustable stems.

Thanks

Tubular stem raisers work, steel tube rolled down at the bottom,
so its OD fits in the fork, a wedge bolt tightens it in there.
and the top has an ID to accept your existing quill stem in the upper section.

IE double diameters, on the tube ... Outside on the bottom = inside on the top.

in 22.2mm, aka 7/8" and .833" and 9/8" type.

Most distributors have them in their stocklist.

they are shown as #SM248, towards the bottom of this page: http://sheldonbrown.com/harris/stems/index.html

available, I expect on request, from UK shops.

I've used this on a conversion. They're fairly robust. Perhaps the UK iteration of Amazon carries them

Thanks I was looking at something similar to that on ebay. Will look around and see which I prefer!

My vote is for the Nitto Technomic. 16cm of tube above the min insertion mark, and can be found for about $50.

I have one on my touring bike. Love it.

Beautifully made too I might add.
