schwinn frontier frame.
I am just starting out learning how to wrench on a bike. My wife had an old Schwinn frontier frame. It must be almost 20 years old. as a plan to help learn how to work on bikes I striped it down to the frame. Should I toss it and all the rusty parts or try to rebuild it. My money situation is rather bleak. I have other bikes I can work on and will be working on them. Is a rebuild worth the time, money, and effort or should I just toss it?

that all depend on how much it worth to you or / and your wife. yes it be a great bike to learn how to repair bikes on. if all the parts work why not clean them up and put the bike back together. it will only cost you your time.

its not worth a whole lot. The parts I know I would need to replace would be both tires, the bottom bracket, the bearings for the fork, all the cables, brake pads, and pedals, chain, and maybe more.

That doesn't sound too bad, but financially I think you're better off salvaging what you can and ditching the rest. Use the Schwinn as a donor, and maybe find a bike on craigslist that needs some work.

I rode a 12spd Frontier for many years. Even had a motor on the front for awhile. I never had any problems with the bike & it was a solid ride. It was made in Taiwan. I sold it a few years ago, & it is still on the road, today .

The Frontier was the very bottom end of the lineup. Solid, heavy bike but not worth putting much money into. Lots of steel and plastic components. The 1991 models had funky 26 x 1-1/2" (650B size) steel rims.
