I notice the new Veloce front derailleur now comes in 2 sizes - standard and compact. Anybody know what year that started? I think that Veloce used to be one-size-fits-all-chainrings not too long ago.

The first I can find is in the '06 catalog. Other groups had a Compact FD before then though. They had separate Triple FD before then also.

Campy had specific 10-speed triple front derailleurs at least through '06. I have a Chorus version installed on one bike, a Veloce on another and a braze-on Centaur still in it's original box, all from that year.

As to "compact specific" fd's, I believe Campy had them for a couple of years and then dropped them, saying that their standard road fd's worked fine on a compact crank too.

Not any more. Campagnolo now sells one style (standard and CT) of double derailleur although you get your choice of braze-on, clip-on, and sometimes black or silver.

I have one (2006 Chorus) but couldn't tell you how well it shifts compared to the newer models which go both ways or how less likely the bigger inner plate makes dumping the chain.

As noted, Campy now only sells one type of FD that will handle with crank. When Campy first offered compact cranks, they offered a CT specific FD, but the reports on it were mixed. I would not buy a CT specific FD, since they are leftovers from several years ago and not likely to work as well as the current models.

Not quite. They now have 1 double front derailleur that works on CT and a regular crank. It actually looks more like a CT than a regular. It is different than the traditional double front.

+1. Here's my braze-on mount '09 Centaur FD, which Campy states is compatible with either a compact or traditional double crank. The cranks that are on this bike are compact, with the big ring being a 50T. The curvature of the derailleur matches the chainring quite well:

I have the opposite, a chorus CT FT (flat bar) that from the documentation should not work with nothing but Flat bars and works perfect with regular cranks and a veloce 07 brifters. Maybe it wont work in a 53/42 configuration tho, clearance.

Supposedly flat bar derailleurs were indexed like Shimano. So, the actuation ratio was a little different than a regular front. At least that's what Campy said.
