Bent fork. Need replacing.
Hey guys, I received a bike from a fellow forum member, but the fork is bent. I'm looking to replace the fork, but I really know nothing about replacing forks. The bike is an 92 or 93 club fuji. What should I be looking for when buying a new fork? What are the sizes and measurements I need? I don't want to buy a fork that is too long and raises the top tube so that it is not perfectly horizontal (parallel to the ground). http://cgi.ebay.com/USED-Chrome-Road...#ht_500wt_1156
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ht_1043wt_1141 Will any of these forks be suitable? Thanks. |
Preferably you should match the following:
-type of headset, threaded or not -size of headset, 1" JIS/ISO or 1 1/8". -length of steerer tube -axle-to-crown length -rake (distance between an extension of a line through the center of the steerer tube and where the wheel axle will sit.) Just about any road bike fork for the intended wheel diameter that'll match the headset will result in a rideable bike, but the bigger the changes in rake, the bigger the changes in ride characteristics. |
May Have Your Fork
Sending PM, as I have an extra fork from a 1989 Club Fuji. The frame had been 61cm. Phil G.

Iif the steer tube isnt' bent it's not very hard to straighten, ( do steel only ), most shops I've worked in, have the "jigs" I've straightened dozens including my own - "when you race you crash"

+1 Check on having it straightened first. Also make sure the main frame is not damaged, typically, there will be paint loss and minor buckling on both the DT and TT, near the head tube, IF there is main frame damage.

Thanks for all the input. It definitely seems a lot easier to just take it to a shop and have them fix the bent fork than buying a new one. I live in Los Angeles. Do you guys know any shops of people that can straighten the fork for me? I'll call around I guess.
