bottom bracket cable guide -- direction?

I have a SM-SP17 Shimano bottom bracket guide which kinda looks like this (or any other cable guide, for that matter):

which direction does it install?

Bikes: 2006 Bianchi 928 Record and 2002 Bianchi Axis 1x9

The long part should go up the back and guide the cable toward the front derailleur.

Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

+1 The long end goes to the back of the FD cable to protect the shell and guide the wire as it wraps all the way around and up to the FD.
