max number of teeth for old shimano fd-m550 front derailleur

Anyone know the max number of teeth for an old Shimano LX fd-m550 front derailleur.

The only spec I can find is on velobase stating a 26 max tooth difference between the chain rings.

My assumptions is a 48t larger ring will work but want to make sure I am giving my colleague correct info.

Thanks in advance.

I had that fd on an older Trek MTB with a 46T big ring and it worked well so I expect a 48 won't be too bad. The needed height may be a bit bigger than ideal but it should work.
