Ten speed mix & match
I'm considering a vintage bike purchase, but I would want to update the bike to a 2x10 drivetrain. Since the bike is Italian, I will put Campagnolo derailleurs, cassette, and hubs on the bike.
However, I'm considering using a modern GPX Sram crank that I already own. Will a Sram ten speed crankset work with a Campagnolo chain? Also, I would like to use bar-end shifters. Does Campagnolo offer ten speed indexed bar-end shifters? If I can't use an indexed bar-end Shifter, can I use a Shimano bar-end shifter in friction mode? I'll eventually have a 100% Campagnolo drivetrain on the bike, but using my existing crankset & shifters will put the bike on the road sooner. Michael |
provided the chain is 10spd I don't think there will be compatibility issues especially if the cassette is Campi
as for the Campi barends... check the Campi website. I personnaly don't believe they made them. the shimano will certainly work in index and possible with an J-Tek type adaptor may even index |
You may encounter problems with the spacing of the rear hub, old bikes will be 126mm, currently everything road is 130mm, can your frame be cold set?
For 10 speed Campag, this is now only avaliable in the lower end groupsets, from Centaur down, they have been 11 speed for the high end for a few years, and this is flowing down a groupset every year. For shifters, as Bianchigirll, don't think they have ever done bar end shifters, so you are stuck with Ergo levers or Shimano. |
Thanks,
Yes, I'm planning to cold set the rear triangle to 130mm spacing. I had this done on my 1987 Trek, which also went from 126 to 130mm. Centaur is good enough for now. If I really like the frame and win the lottery, I'll update the bike to 11-speed Record ;-). |

I got a set of chorus 10 speed bar ends a year ago. You can use the shimano bar ends in friction mode. |
Campy riders have been using bar-end shifters on time trial bikes for many years.
