Installing Shifters

I need a new rear shifter for my mountain bike and am wondering, how do you actually connect the cable to the shifter? It's going to be a Shimano Deore 8spd shifter.

The same way, but in opposite order, as you remove the old one?

I recommend changing the cable along with the shifter.

Brand new shifters almost always comes with shifter cables. If not, read on...

1. Remove the top cap via the two screws.
2. Look for the shifter cog below the spring retainer plate (white plastic cog)
3. Unthread the cable by pushing it through the barrel adjuster/cog.
4. Replace the cable. The cable stopper should fit snugly into the recess on the side of the cog.
5. Put the cap back on.

Hope this is clear enough.
