Nuovo Record RD reassembly question
There are two small holes on the spring cage cover (812/A) for the end of the tension spring to pass through, and two corresponding holes on the outer cage plate (814/A). What are the reasons that you would chose one versus the other? Is it intended to be a way to increase / decrease the tension of the cage, something else?

Cool, thanks. Mainly I just wanted to double check that it wasn't the "self-destruct at an inopportune moment" setting, or something like that.

I took my Pat 76 NR apart over the winter to clean and lube. When I put it back together I used the hole on the cage plate that tensioned the spring less. That was not enough to keep the chain from drooping a bit. I moved the spring to the 'tight' hole and all works just fine now. Easy to do and it's a real nice smooth RD. I've assumed that the choices allow for differences in frame sizes, gearing, chain length and wheel position in the dropout slots. Part of tuning the bike.
