vegetable oil and granulated sugar, then soap and water.

use the automotive hand degreaser and wipe off on a paper towel first, then wash hands with some soap afterwards.
don't forget the moisturizer, because degreaser really does a good job of cutting off all grease from your hands. These days, unless I need to get into a tight spot, I just use nitrile gloves. I can't believe some of you are still using gasoline to clean off oil from your hands. |
WORX hand cleaner is by far, the best hand cleaner I have ever used.
About 9.00 for 185 ml but a little goes a very long ways, it cleans up pretty much anything, and leaves your hands soft and clean and prevents chapping. Completely natural and organic and I have an old film tube filled with it that I carry with me when I am cycling as you just need a few pinches and a few drops of water to make it work. http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_d...34374302883730 If you wash your hands as many times a day as I do then you will really appreciate this... find that citrus based cleaners dry out your hands if you use them too much and can cause irritation and dryness. |
Awhile back I found some nitrile-covered cloth gloves at Wallyworld and I've been wearing them for the really messy jobs like chain maintenance. So far they've been pretty durable unlike the disposable blue gloves. And relatively inexpensive at $4/pair.
For stuff involving small parts like loose pedal bearings I use bare hands. During the job I’ll use Goop and wipe off any excess crud using paper towels. When the job's done use Goop again, then regular soap and water to get rid of the Goop smell. |
I find Tide laundry soap will clean almost anything but paint. For that I use a few drops of solvent.
The workplaces generally have Orange Clean. |
Fast orange.

ProSoap
Sample tub for $2, although shipping might be a deal killer. Professional bike mechanic, my hands get filthy when I forget to wear gloves (hate gloves); love, love, love this soap. Does not lead to dried, cracking hands; cleans as well or better than most. Salesdood left a sample with my skeptical boss, and after we all tried it, he replaced some gritty citrus-based hand cleaner (GoJo?) with this stuff. |
