How strong are the PCS-10 stands?

I have a PCS-10 stand that works great for holding up my <20lb carbon road bike, but last night I was afraid to put my "new" 35+ lb ancient Schwinn steel road bike on it for fear that it would either topple over or that it would break the stand.

I read today that the stand can handle recumbents, and even lightweight recumbents have to be heavier than 35 lbs, right?

So basically, I just need someone smarter than myself to tell me I'm worrying too much lol.

Can't you try it and see? Doubt it will break the stand.

clamp it in and see what happens - you should be able to prevent any serious mishaps just be being there .. . .

One of the reasons that I chose the PCS-10 over the others was a review that I read from a guy who did his tandem repairs on it. It's steel tubing, not aluminum, and has been extremely solid for everything I've used it for. Toppling over is completely impossible because the design of the stand dictates where the center of gravity will be with a bike mounted. So as long as you don't have the top arm rotated to the side or mount up your bike to it completely unevenly, the C.G. will be in a similar location on all bikes, well within the support base. The only failure that I could imagine happening with an extremely heavy bike (well over 35 lbs) is the quick release clamp on the stand's main arm not not being able to keep the upper section from sliding down. This would cause no damage at all to the stand, and you'd be able to adjust up the tension on the quick release until it eliminated the slipping.

Short version: You have absolutely nothing to worry about.

I am able to torque bottom brackets and crank arms while the bike is on the stand - it's a monster!

Probably wouldn't use one for hoisting MoPeds.
