130 mm axle

I picked up a record hub with 126mm spacing.Where can I get a 130mm axle to put on it and use it on a more modern frame?Does threading vary on record hub axles?

Campag uses a different thread pitch than Shimano.. [26 tpi vs 1 tp mm]

I recommend 'wheels of Boulder' replacement rear axles [QBP Distributed ]

I fit those on my Campag hubs, and have not had 1 break, the Genuine Campag did.

I think the Italian parts were tempered harder.

You can add a 4 mm spacer the the non-drive side of the hub and recenter the current axle. A standard 126 mm OLD hub uses a 137 mm long axle which leaves 5.5 mm sticking out beyond each locknut. If you add the spacer, that will leave 3.5 mm of axle outside of each locknut which is plenty for good wheel retention. You will, of course, have to redish the rim if it's in a prebuilt wheel. Here is Sheldon Brown's description of axle length and hub spacing. Read the paragraphs immedialtely under the table of spacing and lengths.

If you want to do it "by the book", you will need a 141 mm axle. As fietsbob noted, Campy uses a slightly different thread pitch than Shimano and most other hubs so you will need a Campy specific axle. Here is one source: https://www.sheldonbrown.com/harris/axles.html

After reading your post I measured the axle of the hub and it's a little longer than 130mm Which means the hub was originally for 120mm spacing. With the spacers on the hub the axle protrudes slightly on each side, maybe 2.5-3 mm.Is that enough for 126mm spacing?

Also if I replace the axle with a longer one will I have to replace the Quick release also with a longer one?

That's adequate for 126 mm spacing but won't leave enough extra for 130 mm. Apparently someone has already respaced the hub so you will need a longer axle to do it further. Might as well get the "correct" 141 mm axle for 130 mm spacing as long as you are going to respace it again.

You may or may not need a longer qr skewer. Try yours in a 130 mm hub and see if there is adequate threaded end for the nut to go on at least 5 turns or so when the hub is clamped into a frame's dropouts. If so, it's ok. If not, get a longer one.
