Older threadless stem size? 1 1/4"
I tried to upgrade my stem on my older Cannondale R900 and made the mistake of buying a 1 1/8" stem. I was shocked to see that it didn't fit. The threadless fork seems to take a 1 1/4" stem. Does this sound right? I'm not an expereinced mechanic so I have never seen this before. Does anyone know where to get a stem that is 1 1/4"? I'm looking for a very short stem (60mm - 80mm). Thanks.

I probably should have been more firm in my post. I measured and it sure looks like 1 1/4". I don't have calipers, but this is what it looks like with a gauge. Thanks.

Are you saying that the 1 1/8" stem is too small for the fork?
1" and 1 1/8" are the two standard sizes. |

Thanks! |
Try Santana Cycles. They make tandems that use 1 1/4" steerers, headsets and stems. If they don't have what you need, they might be able to help you with a source.
