Sachs Torpedo 3-speed - IGH hub works fine, shifter buggered? Can anyone help?

Hello all,

I have replaced the Sachs cable on the IGH hub of a colleague's bicycle. So far, so good.

The trigger shifter ratchet appears not to be engaging though, and the trigger always 'slips' back into 3rd.

Does anyone have experience with stripping down one of these Sachs trigger shifters as my knowledge has run out. An extensive search has revelealed nothing that I could find.

Thanks, as always, in advance.

All the IGH companies seem to considered shifters either something you'll never have trouble with or a sacrafical part that's just replaced instead of repaired. With a location in Germany you should be able to source a new 3gang shifter.

Anyway, here's basically what the shifter looks like inside.

For N.A. folks, SRAM IGH spares are hard to come by in general and the company doesn't offer the trigger shifter here at all, so for us, John Allen reports on the Harris Cyclery web site that a Sturmey 3-spd trigger will shift a SRAM/Sachs/Fichtel&Sach 3-spd hub. I shifted a T3 with a S-A trigger for a little over a year and it worked fine.

Thanks tcs, I'll just throw a new shifter on.

Best wishes
Simon
