I'd hate to deter attention from the "breaking of bars" problem, but I have a problem with the grips slipping off of my bike. It's a brand new gt aggressor 3.0, what can I do? and for a relatively low cost? and a quality brand/edition?
Thank you, |
kzochert, i moved your post to a new thread, it should get more attention here then in the other thread.
What type of grips to you have? are they rubber? If so, slide a screw driver under the grips, and spray some hairspray under the grips. Let that dry for ~30minutes. That should solve your problem! |
Spray hair spray into your grips and put them back on the handlebars.
|
HI , If your bars have a dull finish to them , sometimes hairspray won't work ! , if this is the case use some spray can clear paint laquer... put some inside the grip first then a little on the bar and quickly slide the grip on .
|
why....just get some frickin ODI lock on grips.....you dont need to spray any messy **** in the grips!!!
|
ODI Lock-on Grips: $15.00
Hair Spray: $00.15 :p |
o yea i forgot....only if your rich then get the ODI grips.....$15.00 is so much money omg!! Plus after their wore out you pry the clamps off and just get new grips.....for$8.00.
|
The original poster asked for a low cost option, maybe $15 is low cost, maybe not. I personaly would go with the ODI Lock-on's, and plan on changing to them once my current grips die.
|
oDi lockons are the only way to go. Ive heard hairspray comes loose in heavy rain. you never have to worry about bolt-on grips.

Hint; sell the bike and let the new owner worry about it  |
Thanks for the helpful comments, but what are ODI Lock-on Grips?
|
Mike, that's one option ;) ,the other is to insert a phillips head screwdriver between the grip and the bar and rotate it around breaking the seal .... :) , but do not insert a screwdriver into a baby Harp or that seal will be broken and the animal rights campaigners will not be happy and then you will find yourself trying to break out of their grip ! :p

ODI Lock-on Grips: $15.00 , Hair spray .15 The cheap solution is to wrap a thin piece of wire around the grip, then twist it tight with a pair of pliers and trim the charp edge flush. |

Oh my... How SPORTY. |
Originally posted by stumpjumper worked for Travis Brown and Tinker Juarez. way better than hairspray which tends to wash out after 4-5 good wet rides here in ohio. I suppose your suggestion would work, but what about the unfinished wire cutting your hands? |
I think stump suggested trimming the wire flush, and perhaps even adding some grip tape around it in order to prevent harming the hands.
|
This is an old trick that's been used in MX for years. If those guys hit 40' jumps and not have a problem, mtn bikers shouldn't be affected. If you twist the wire tight enough, it get's covered by the grip itself. You can also locate the wrap where you hardly grip the bars, i.e. underneath and tucking the cut end inwards. Some grips (Oury come to mind!) have grooves in them so the wire doesn't wander!
|
Oh yeah! I remove my grips by inserting a small screwdriver and spraing hairspray into the space around the screwdriver. I prefer AquaNet - small trial size about $0.79.
I then take some 220 grit and lightly (LIGHTLY) roughen up the area under the grip. I then spray either more hairspray or clear spray paint into the grip and slide them on! Let them sit overnight! NOTE: If you remove your grips too many times, the only thing that will keep them in place is the wire trick! The grips must stretch or something! L8R |
I cant believe that any of u actually go through all that crap just to get grips on and off.
|

ROTFLMAO.
