How do you disassemble a cassette?

My current cassete is 13-28T (shimano cs hg70-7m). The current teething is 13,15,17,19,21,24,28 which I find not effective for road use. I also have a cs hg 50-6ad (12,14,16,18,21,24) that I don't use. I was thinking, "if I disassemble both cassettes, I will be able to re-assemble one cassette with a 12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19 set". Can this be achieved?

Since the spacing is different for 6 and 7 speed cassettes, if you are using indexed shifting, it might not work, and if it does, the shifts won't be as smooth as they could be.

To disassemble a casette, you have to remove the lock ring at the end, using a tool designed for the job. The smaller cogs are usually seperate pieces, and can be taken off one by one, but I think (in some cases at least) that the larger cogs are one piece. As to whether you can then go on to take this apart, I am not sure.

You may run into trouble trying to use two 'first' cogs. Since you got em,give it go.If no workee all you are out is a little time. You sure you actually have a 6 speed casette or a freewhel?I don't recall seeing any HG 6 speed casettes.

Am sure it is not a freewheel - It came labeled as a cs hg50 and some ID ad.
