Bottom bracket creak?

Today, I was out on a ride, when I heard this creak coming from the bottom of my bike, whenever I pedaled even a little bit hard. I t sounded like it was coming from the front, so I thought my carbon fork was about to fail or something, and I check that and the front hub. Nothing. Also, nothing was rubbing, I even reinstalled both the wheels on the side of the road. Now, I assume that the sound is coming from the bottom bracket. Does anyone have any ideas?

Try tightening the chainring bolts. This was my prob & wouldn't have cost any $ to fix if I'd been doing my own work then. As it was, the shop replaced a perfectly good cup-and-cone bottom bracket with a cheap cartridge... nevermind, old story.
