Converting C&C BB to Cartridge?

I can’t find a spindle for my cup & cone bottom bracket so I’m thinking about replacing it with a cartridge BB. My question is, since the old spindle is asymmetrical (4mm longer on the crank side), and cartridge bearings are symmetrical; what, if any, adverse effects would I look-out for by basically shortening the crank side by 2mm and lengthening the other side by 2mm? Would I be better off getting a slightly longer cartridge in order to maintain the proper length on the crank side?

Derailleur bike? chainline is what you work with on the right..

on the left, at it's most basic , the crank arm just has to not hit the frame as it rotates.

your bike shop will help you with this , they can see things that text won't describe..

Also, the FD may not have enough room to drop into the smallest chainring.
