Mixing Shimano road/mountain + SRAM Apex components

Can anyone tell me if they think this combination would work?

Ultegra 6603 10sp STI levers + Deore RD-M591 SGS 9sp rear derailleur + SRAM Apex 11-32 10sp cassette

I'm thinking of outfitting my light touring bike with super-low gears for climbing, and I don't think my current Ultegra 6700GS RD is going to be able to handle the cassette. My main concern here is whether this RD is compatible with road shifters. I've read that Shimano changed the shifter pull ratio on some of its newer ATB lines, but I *think* that only applies to the 10sp stuff.

In this equation, the only concern is cable pull on the levers and derailleur. The cassette matches the shifter, so there is no concern there. The only thing I'd be concerned about is the RD barrel adjuster. Everything else should work.

The shadow style rear MTB derailleurs do not easily work with ten speed brifters, use: https://harriscyclery.net/itemdetails.cfm?ID=950

Thanks, the RD you linked looks identical to the RD-M591 I was looking at. Both are top-normal, I think. Anyone know what the difference is between the M590 and M591? It the latter just a slightly newer model?

DEORE Rear Derailleurs are offered in SHADOW for off-road MTB and Double-Panto (conventional) which are best suited to Treking. You want the Double-Panto and should avoid the Shawdow.

I cannot confirm if the M591 is Shawdow or not. The M590 is Double-Panto.

BTW, I was able to use an Ultegra GS rear derailleur with the Sram 11-32 cassette and Shimano ten-speed brifters. See: https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...r-fear-no-hill
