Chain Noise and "hop": how do i get rid of this?

ok, i recently built this bike

new cables and housing, smooth lines, no bends.

shifting is great for both front and rear, however...

no matter if the front is big or small, the smallest gear in the rear always makes noise.

the chain lifts a little bit off of the lower half of the smallest gear when the pedals are in the 3 (o'clock) to 5 position, or the 7 to 9 position.

the shifting is fine in every gear combination, but it takes a long time to drop the smallest gear.

the chain is new, and there are no stiff links. the pulleys do not appear to be excessively thin/worn.

this is killing me. i just want to ride. what is it?

ps- limit screws are set just right, and i followed the b limit screw according to the park tool website.

Not nearly enough info for a real answer. Not even the brand of the group.

Are you using an 11T small cog by any chance?

Did you adjust the cable tension to center the jockey wheel?

I know that you said the limit screws are set correctly but try backing off the high limit screw about 1/8 turn and see what happens.

yes. a friend of mine pointed out that it appears the lockring prevents the chain from

settling properly on the 11t. advice?
