New Crankset Help.
New Crankset Help.
Hello,
First off, I have a Walmart bike, older series Mongoose Pro. I have upgraded many things, the Wheels, Tires, freewheel, chain. The last thing I want to upgrade is the Crankset, I want something built of more quality. Currently the crankset is a suntour.
I had a couple of questions, I have a bike mechanic that helps me at my LBS and he told me that my crank was bent and told me to shop around for another crankset. IDK much about cranksets, I told him what measurement or other things should I look for when searching. He told me any mountain bike crankset that has a square tapered thing.
So... I look for cranksets and I find this one, https://www.jensonusa.com/store/produ...t.aspx?sc=FRGL
It has the option of a square taper or splined, so I guess if I were to buy this crankset I would choose the square taper option right?
Can someone tell me if this crankset would work with my bicycle? Measure wise?
This Crankset doesn't come with a Bottom Bracket, so.. I was wondering how do I search for a bottom bracket? Which would be best for this Crankset? When searching is there some sort of size or measurement I should be looking for? Does the BB have to be a shimano BB since its a shimano crank?
I'm sorry I am such a noob, but I would love to learn this stuff.
Thanks.
BTW, while people say never to upgrade walmart bikes, the reason I am upgrading this bike and not buying a more quality bike is I love the way this bike FITS me. Everything feels comfortable, I would say I love the way the frame fits me. Sure the frame is heavy as sin, but I just love how the bike fits me.

The link does not work. The square taper may or may not work with your existing BB. You'd have to know what the curent spindle length is and what the new crankset calls for. As for upgrading an Xmart bike, putting good parts on a boat anchor makes it better than it was but not equal to a higher quality frame that is lighter. You just need to find a frame with similar geometry to what you have.
